From Zwolle to Santa Rita: How I made my dream of Italy a reality with the help of Lingodrops.

"Looking back, I think: it was love at first sight: Italy. I remember the holidays in Italy with my parents as if it were yesterday. Somehow, I felt like I belonged there. The people, the weather, the food, the language—it was different, but strangely enough, it also felt familiar. A kind of home. So, I always dreamed of moving to Italy. Yet, it never happened. You get stuck in a kind of pattern: friends, studies, a relationship, children. So it still remains a bit of a dream. But it always played on in the back of my mind. But you know: between dream and reality, there are practical obstacles. Did my partner even want to go?

We talked about it often, especially during our Italian holidays. That's how it became more and more important to him. Fortunately, we can both work remotely, so that wasn't an obstacle. And my children were still young enough to take the plunge. But the main obstacle was the language. Because when you live in Italy, you naturally have to speak the language. Not only to navigate the bureaucracy, but especially to truly be part of the community. Now, I'm not a language genius, and I don't like to bury my nose in books.

Of course, I had already tried several courses, but I never really got past the beginner level. In retrospect, I was mainly afraid of speaking and making mistakes. That paralyzed me, so to speak, and also robbed me of the joy and the will to persevere.

And then I heard someone talking about Lingodrops.

Not constantly cramming books and vocabulary, but learning through play, with a bit of fun and soon achieving noticeable results. I thought that didn't exist. And I succeeded! Within a few months, I started talking! I could have conversations! That gave me so much confidence that I dared to take the plunge and move to Italy. We live there now.

I'm still learning, of course, but it's going really well. I'm enjoying the country, the weather, and the little social moments at the bakery, the butcher, and the market. People love that you speak their language, because Italians are proud of their language and culture. And Italians really care about you. You feel like you're becoming more and more a part of their community. I think that's fantastic. The children are integrating so quickly. I'm jealous of how quickly they pick up a language. Of course, it was harder for me, but I managed. I'm incredibly grateful to Lingodrops for that.
